Boost For Secure Remote Working
SpliceCom has further enhanced its extensive portfolio of secure remote working solutions by introducing Secure Socket Layer (SSL) connectivity options to the latest versions of their IP Softphones for Microsoft Windows and Apple Mac OS X laptops, PCs and platforms.
SpliceCom's SSL implementation on Navigate for Windows and PCS 60 for Mac OS X makes the deployment and use of IP Softphones for mobile, remote office and home working applications easier to roll-out and use, whilst simultaneously increasing voice security.
The enhanced IP Softphones provide a secure SSL tunnel from the laptop or PC, through the Internet and back to the SSL Gateway, which can reside on the same platform as SpliceCom's Soft PBX (or alongside a Hard PBX), wherever they might be; on-premise, in the cloud, hosted, or deployed in a hybrid environment.
SSL negates the need for costly and complex Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and eliminates the security risks associated with the use of the Simple Tunneling Protocol (STUN) and Network Address Translation (NAT). The vulnerability of STUN and NAT is becoming an ever-increasing concern, especially worrying when you consider that both are used extensively by hosted telephony providers to deploy SIP voice via open public networks.
The use of SSL also offers the significant benefit of reducing network overheads on a standard voice call by up to 95% when compared with a VPN connection.
SpliceCom SSL uses the same "padlock" technology used to make browser based financial transactions via the web.
Based on field-proven technology, the British vendor's SSL Gateway runs as a Linux or Mac OS X app, either natively or in a virtualised environment.
"Adding SSL support to our IP Softphones means that pain-free, secure connectivity is now available to everyone, how ever, where ever and on what ever device they wish to handle their business calls on. It's further validation of our commitment to provide on-going extra value to all SpliceCom customers' - both new and existing," said Robin Hayman, SpliceCom's Director of Marketing and Product Management. " We view SSL support as a key component of our Flexible Edge Solutions portfolio, making life easier for IT and Financial Directors as well as those who will be using it to communicate on a daily basis," concludes Hayman.
